So we gave it a miss last year, but this year sees the return of Sugar Paper at The Bust Craftacular and this time its Knit And Destroy vs Sugar Paper!
yes come down and see Kandy's knits and our zines, sat next in to each other, mixed with whatever zines of my own I manage to print.

Craft idol #6

Whitney LeeI first came across this lady when I watched the Handmade nation documentary at and Exhibition in Leigh last year (was it last year?!). I think I had briefly seen her work in Bust magazine before, but I hadn't really studied it.
In a nutshell Whitney makes trashy, pornographic latch hook rugs! But it's so much more than that!
Whitney is a feminist with a sense of humour and incredible talent for latch hook rug making. I have yet to garner this talent, I used to spend a long time making rag rugs with my Grandad and so latch hook is something I definitely want to try out.
Whitney makes and sells kits too for those of us who want to get our latch hook on.

We both attended Bust's summer craftacular, it was a ton-o-fun and do you know what we both said afterwards? We said:

things I have been doing...

which mean I haven't had time to blog, to read blogs, to generally waste my life on the Internet.....

Working over Halloween in a fancy dress shop, sheesh, having a Halloween party and falling asleep, sewing, making giant candy corns from the recipe in Bust,

going to see live music (LC! twice in one week, ha!), attending a funeral and a wedding, dying my hair orange,

making food from sweet potatoes, finishing off zine number 4, buying tickets for New Moon, getting excited about going to see New Moon. erm yeah actually that's all I've been doing.

Sugar Paper went BUST....

Eh up,
I know it's been a while, and this BUST craftacular write up is a bit late, but it's here... So, last time I did the BUST thing I went on my own which was OK, but this time I had company which was ACE. Seleena (my partner in craft) got a stall for Sugar Paper zine too selling zines, craft kits, bags n all sorts of other crafty stuffs! So, we took the train from Chesterfield and it was an early start, 7.45am train equals muchos giddiness, tea and top trumps!

Early morning cup of tea, with those dairystix, as long as you don't sniff the tea, it's not so bad!

After the journey, that went quite quickly we arrived in the big smoke, got money on our Oyster cards like proper city folk then hot-footed it to the venue with our heavy bags o stuff. There were already people hanging outside when we got there, man, they really wanted those goodie bags! We had just over an hour to set up, and were informed just before the doors opened that there were HUNDREDS of people waiting outside, aaaaaaahhhhh. This is my stall before the doors opened, Seleena's stall is right over the other side of the room, that bit o turquoise between the 2 people sat down.

The next few hours were a bit of a blur. People came and bought stuff and chatted and oohed and ahhhed at my knits which was great! Friends came to visit bearing birthday presents and donuts for me, hooray! It quitened down later on, less people like, but the music was banging ALL DAY, I was right opposite a speaker which meant lots of shouting, which coped with. All in all it was a fun-tastic day, I was shocked when I woke u/p the next morning with a bad headache feeling ropey, what's going on, am I ill?! I was confused, until Seleena pointed out that the last cup of tea I had had was on the train the previous morning, aaaaahhhhh. A few cups of tea later and all was well, I didn't realise how addicted I was!!! Since this trip Sugar Paper have graced 2 more craft markets, watch this space for more funtastic write-ups!!! K x

We heart craft...do you?!

Oh yes, here at Sugar Paper we LOVE craft, and we have done this lovely load of badges for the goodie bags at the BUST craftacular this weekend, hooray!
I say we, when actually it wasn't either Me or Seleena who did these, it was Knit and Destroy's resident pompom maker/'ideas man'...thank you Ben, they look great! And if you're not one of the lucky first 100 poeple through the door to get a goodie bag then never fear cos we will be selling them at the Sugar Paper stall along with zines, craft kits and lots of other handmade goodies!See you there. x

We have something to get off our chest.....

YES! Kandy and I will be at the Bust Craftacular, on Saturday 22nd August.

Kandy with her Knit And Destroy wares, me with Sugar Paper stuffs and some other bits I will be making (well if I manage to stop my life being taken over by the Twilight Saga and pull my finger out).

Debbie Stoller

Debbie is responsible for a series of knitting and crochet books aptly titled Stitch And Bitch! The series of books contains how to, tips, patterns and all around stitching awesomeness.

I will admit though that my favourite thing that Debbie has done, is not her knitters design journal, oh no it's that she co-founded my favourite magazine Bust.

Yes when she's not being a crafting feminizzle (her words!) she's Editor-in-Chief of my fave glossy 'zine Bust.

All in all she's pretty cool!

Craft Idol #1

In order to give myself a kick up the crafting arse I've decided to start a series where Kandy and I will tell you a little about our craft idols (this will mean when I run out of the ones I am aware of I will have to search for more!)
First up is...
Jenny Hart


Jenny Hart has made embroidery an art form. creator of Sublime Stitching, awesome embroidery patterns for all kick- ass crafsters. She also makes awesome art work, using hand embroidery of amazing portraits of the famous and the wonderful. She has worked with other ace art ladies Dame Darcy and Lisa Petrucci. Having artwork featured in one of my favourite magazines, Bust. If that isn't enough she has also knocked out a couple of crafty books. Give yourself repetitive strain injury and a piece of awesome embroidery with a Sublime Stitching pattern!
